The Divine Comedy

Dante Alighieri’s *The Divine Comedy* follows the poet himself on a visionary journey through the three realms of the afterlife: Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise. Guided through Hell and up the mountain of Purgatory by Virgil, the great poet of classical Rome, Dante encounters the souls who inhabit each realm and witnesses a universe ordered by divine justice—where punishment and reward reflect the moral state of the dead.
