Drop Dead

Obituary writer Nadine Barbault has built an “ice queen” persona at the fast-paced Toronto Herald, so when she learns that reclusive author Dot Voline has died, she promptly publishes an obituary—only to discover that Dot is still alive. The mistake delights Wesley Chen, an ambitious journalist at the rival Spear and Nadine’s longtime professional thorn. But rumors of a scandal in Dot’s past soon draw both reporters to the author’s mysterious mansion, where neither is willing to let the other claim the story.

Dot initially refuses to answer their questions, then offers an unusual arrangement: they must work together if they want to hear the truth. Before she can finish recounting her story, however, Dot dies for real. With the estate executor granting them three weeks to investigate, Nadine and Wes must navigate a sprawling mansion, a long-buried scandal, and their combustible rivalry. As competition gives way to close collaboration, they begin to wonder whether their connection involves more than the desire to win.
