Nesta Archeron has never been easy to understand. The strange world she now inhabits is dangerous enough, but the trauma of the war with Hybern—and everything she lost—keeps her trapped in anger and grief.

The person most capable of provoking Nesta is Cassian, a battle-scarred warrior who serves Rhys and Feyre’s Night Court and therefore remains close to her. Their hostility carries an unmistakable heat, and circumstances repeatedly bring them together. As Nesta and Cassian are drawn into closer cooperation, the story follows the pressure between them alongside the wider dangers facing the court, including the threat posed by the treacherous human queens who have returned to the continent. Their personal wounds and the fate of the world become increasingly difficult to separate.
