What it’s about

Jerrell Landish is a thief so notorious that he hides behind the name Jace. When he accepts a contract to obtain a secret, enchanted amulet, he finds that the artifact—known as the Eye of Obscurance—has already been stolen. To satisfy the Thieves’ Guild, Jace must recover it and carry out an even more dangerous assignment: assassinate Wizard Lord Taladain, a ruler whose power rivals that of a god. Rhoa, a diminutive and daring acrobat, possesses the Eye of Obscurance and is pursuing her own deadly objective.

Haunted by a troubled past and consumed by her desire to see Taladain dead, she is willing to risk anything to achieve it. Meanwhile, Taladain’s daughter, Narine, has recently become a master wizardess. Caught between a father and brother driven by power—one seeking to use her and the other viewing her as a threat—she must navigate a court where danger waits at every turn. As thieves, assassins, and wizards converge, the amulet’s secrets could alter the balance of power across the wizardoms.

Evidence Confidence

Why this matters →
DevelopingAudiobook-specific confidence
  • The book itself is well identified and supported across independent sources.
  • We still have limited information tied to this exact recording or edition.
  • We have recording-specific performance commentary or analyzed audio for this audiobook.

We have a useful picture of the audiobook, though some listening and edition-specific details are still becoming clearer.

Evidence Snapshot i

These cards measure different things in the same evidence pool, so they are not meant to add together. Retained Evidence counts unique saved records; discussions and networks count independent groups; narration and edition cards count only records qualified for those specific jobs.

Unique evidence records that remain after filtering and deduplication. The larger evidence-signal total shown below can be higher because one retained record may support several separate facts or observations.

What this means

Sources tied to the audiobook recording itself, such as verified product or catalog records that help resolve narrator, runtime, format, release information, or stable recording identifiers.

A larger evidence pool gives us more to work with, but volume alone does not make a conclusion stronger. Relevance and independence still matter.

Narrator Experience

How Travis Baldree performs this particular recording.

How we build this section
Performance descriptions use evidence tied to this recording. Repeated independent observations carry more weight than isolated comments. Narrator background and awards add context but do not determine how this performance is described. Measured sample signals describe only the analyzed excerpt and are never treated as quality scores.

Performance summary

In the verified sample, Travis Baldree is heard with measured pacing and crisp enunciation. These excerpt-level observations are combined with recording-specific listener evidence, so the profile stays cautious about qualities the short sample cannot demonstrate across the full audiobook.

This description is based on evidence specific to this recording.

What this means for your listen

Early performance evidence points this way: the steady or measured pace should feel easy to settle into; listeners who prefer brisk delivery may find it more deliberate. Clear or careful diction should make dialogue, names, and unfamiliar terms easier to follow over a longer listen.

Listener Themes

How themes are identified
Themes appear when independent discussions repeat a meaningful idea about the story or listening experience. Counts reflect distinct discussions rather than repeated copies of the same source.

Public discussion is most united in its appreciation of the narration, with additional positive but less settled signals around humor, story quality, originality, emotional impact, and world-building. The overall impression is adventurous, funny, and capable of emotional weight, though the broader story judgments are not as firmly established.

Is This Right for You?

You’ll probably enjoy this if…

  • You enjoy political fantasy with wizard rulers, rebellions, assassins, and shifting alliances.
  • You like high-stakes adventures that mix danger with witty banter.
  • You appreciate narrated ensemble casts with acted character voices.

It might not be the best fit if…

  • You want a low-violence fantasy with little threat or combat.
  • You prefer a single-protagonist story with minimal court politics and fewer competing agendas.
  • You are particularly sensitive to measured narration pacing.

Best listening context

  • Good for sustained fantasy listening when you want an involved adventure with multiple power struggles.
  • A strong option for listeners looking for action and intrigue rather than a quiet or purely reflective story.

Our Take

Wizardoms offers a busy, high-concept fantasy setup: hidden motives, dangerous magic, rival power centers, and characters forced to choose between survival and principle. The available public voice is especially positive about the narration and sees humor alongside the darker material. Performance evidence is useful but still developing, so treat the praise for character voices and acting as encouraging rather than definitive.

Listeners split most clearly around humor & banter and listener experience unclassified. Because those reactions recur across independent discussions and sources, they look more like genuine taste differences than isolated comments.
